Is The Company The Right Place For You?
Imagine you have resigned from an organization where you were struggling to fit in.
You start a new job and learn that it’s the same.
Same challenges, another place.
But is it possible to learn about the company`s culture before you start working there?
When considering a career change or already looking for a job, you want to make sure that the next company is the right place for you.
You would know if the company’s values match yours only when you have been on board for a while.
But there are 5 ways to get an idea before accepting the offer:
1 - Advertisement.
What kind of language do they use, formal informal, conservative, or inclusive?
What are the job requirements - is the focus on tasks, goals, and achievements or rather people and processes?
2 - People who work there.
What about the background of the people you would be working with?
What do they talk about/post on LinkedIn?
Do they look like they are enjoying what they do?
3 - Job interview.
How was your interaction with people during the interviewing process?
How did they greet you, and treat you?
How did they communicate in between - formal, informal, within working hours, or late evenings?
4 - Ask questions.
“What do you love most about your organization?”
“What is most challenging for you working here?”
Ask for examples to make sure you get as many pieces of the puzzle as you can.
5 - Your future boss.
What kind of management style do they have?
Do you have similar values and goals?
Was the conversation smooth, and natural, or you rather struggled and left uncomfortable?
Don’t settle for a job. Strive to find the right job for you!
What is your experience with getting to know the company`s culture from advertisements or job interviews?
