8 Steps to Land a Job Abroad

70% of my Turkish clients this year are looking for a job abroad. ✈
That is 3x more than last year.

Currently, the most famous goal for Turkish professionals is the Netherlands, Germany, UAE, and the UK.

Being an expatriate myself who moved to Turkey 14 years ago, I can relate to the curiosity of exploring different cultures and job markets.
Also, I can relate to the challenges, that comes with job search in different country, culture, language, and job market.

With the growing interest of my clients in the Netherlands, I’ve created a headhunter/recruiter list and also got in touch with several of them, to learn more about the job market and secrets of expatriate job search. Will share what I learned another time.

This time, I’ve put together 8 steps to land a job abroad:

1 - Explore high-demand job markets for your skills and experience.

Identify the countries where your skills and experience are in high demand to increase your chances of success.

2 - Build a network.

Connect and engage with the most active and reputable recruitment and headhunting companies in your target countries.

3 - Identify target companies.

Identify companies that align with your career goals and build a network of their professionals.

4 - Customize your resume.

To increase the chance of job interviews, tailor your resume when applying, by highlighting the most relevant job experience and skills.

5 - Get in touch with the hiring team.

Connect with the recruiter and/or the HR manager to inform them why you are a great fit for the role.

6 - Consider cultural differences.

Be aware of cultural differences, when preparing for the job interview.

7 - Prepare for the job interview in English.

Write down the answers to most typical job interview questions, to present yourself confidently in English.

8 - Seek a Career Coach.

To develop a job search strategy and practice the job interviews in English, seek a career coach with relevant experience.

Are you thinking of taking your career abroad, too?
