The LinkedIn Headline That Gets You a Job

If you are raising an eyebrow thinking, why should you care about such a detail as your LinkedIn Headline, then you are the person I had in my mind while preparing this blog. Please keep reading.

No, it’s not a tip for juniors.

I work with mid-career professionals who have over 15 years of experience, most of them are middle and top-level managers.

It’s a tip for a professional like you.

Write a LinkedIn Headline That Gets You a Job

Some job seekers make the epic mistake of writing in their LinkedIn headline: “Open to work.”

The majority just state their current title.

It’s the same as naming every book a “Book” and then wondering, why people don’t buy it.

2 reasons why you need to do better than that:

1.     The keywords in your headline have high importance on the search rankings.

2.     It is the first thing recruiter sees after your name and surname when screening applications.

You can use 220 characters to stand out in search results and the recruiter’s eyes!

The headlines that help you rank high when a recruiter is using the search filter, include:

  • Expertise Area relevant to your goal

  • Title/role that you are targeting

  • Industries relevant to your goal

  • Unique value proposition

It could look like this:

  1. Role | Expertise Area 1 | Expertise Area 2 | Industry

  2. Title 1 | Title 2 | Skill | Industry

  3. Title | Industry | Unique Value Proposition

For example:

Managing Director | Sales & Marketing | Production Management | Infrastructure

Export Manager | International Sales | Key Account Management | Agriculture

Project Manager | Manufacturing | Building trust with customers and solving complex problems in English, Bulgarian and Turkish languages.

There’s no one right way how to do it. It depends on your past experience and on your goal.

Use the space to tell who you are in your target role context and see the increase in your profile views and invitations for job interviews.
